Former champion Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero (29-1-1, 18KOs), along with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (39-0, 29Kos), are the two frontrunners to face WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26KOs) on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather's was scheduled to start a 90-day jail sentence on Friday, but a Las Vegas judge adjourned Mayweather's surrender date to June 1. Last month Mayweather pled guilty to a domestic abuse charge.

Mayweather is now free and clear to fight on May 5. Guerrero spoke to BoxingScene.com about the possibility of facing him.

BoxingScene.com: So Robert, what are your thoughts on Floyd Mayweather being able to fight on May 5th after getting a continuance on his sentence?

RG: I’m happy that he worked everything out and he can spend that quality time with his kids. Putting boxing aside, what’s most important is family. I’m sure he’s looking forward to getting back in the ring though.

BoxingScene.com: Will you be ready to challenge Mayweather on Cinco de Mayo if he chooses to go in your direction?

RG: Make no mistakes about it - if Mayweather vs. Guerrero goes down on May 5th, it’s going to be fireworks right from the opening bell. I will do everything necessary to prepare for this fight. I’ve been studying him and I see some weaknesses that I can expose. Styles make fights and I’m a student of the game. I know what it’s going to take to get the job done. The fans will get their money’s worth because I’m going shock the world and give Floyd his first loss.

BoxingScene.com: Do you feel you’ve done enough in the sport to garner a mega-fight with Floyd?

RG:  Based on my accomplishments there’s no doubt about it.  I’m undefeated in world title fights - winning 75% by KO.  I've went overseas to capture a world championship.  I've won world titles in multiple weight classes.  How many fighters in boxing can say that? I've accomplished everything you possibly can to get a mega-fight. Cinco de Mayo is a huge Mexican-American holiday.

BoxingScene.com: Do you see the Mexican fans rallying behind you if you get the fight?

RG: Absolutely. The Mexican fans deserve to see a warrior going head up against Floyd on Cinco de Mayo. I’m going to end his reign over Mexican fighters once and for all and celebrate with my fellow Mexican people. May 5th, 2012 will be a great day in boxing history when I dethrone Mayweather.

BoxingScene.com: How do you feel about Canelo Alvarez's name being thrown around as well?

RG: Look, I'm a multiple world champion in multiple weight classes. He's fought hand picked opponents and isn't ready for a Mayweather fight I feel right now. Maybe two years form now he'd be ready but its too early. I'm the better overall fighter right now and have the best possible abilities to beat him.

BoxingScene.com: Do you have any closing thoughts to end this interview?

RG: I want everyone to understand that I’ve never turned down a fight against anyone. I’m always willing to fight the best with no questions asked. At the end of the day, I want to be remembered as a person who never ducked anyone and put on the best performances for the fans. If I get this fight with Mayweather, I’m going to donate a substantial amount of my purse to cancer research and bone marrow programs to help save lives. I’m hungry for that mega fight and I’m calling out everyone. It’s my time!
