Golovkin: Mexican Style is a True Fight, It's Not Fake

Kazakh knockout king Gennady Golovkin says he will think about Canelo Alvarez only after his fight this Saturday night.

The Middleweight kingpin who will defend his World Titles against Vanes Martirosyan, live and exclusive on BoxNation, was quick to dismiss any talk on facing the Mexican next up.

Their eagerly-anticipated rematch was all set to take place this weekend but was cancelled after Canelo tested positive for banned drug clenbuterol.

36-year-old Golovkin now faces Martirosyan in a hastily arranged showdown and the undefeated 160-pound superstar dismissed all Canelo talk and promised a ‘big gift’ to fight fans watching on BoxNation.

"This is not an easy fight," Golovkin said. "We have a big fight. Vanes is a good fighter. I promise we will put on a good show. We bring a good gift to the people. I feel this is a world class fight. He’s a completely different guy. My focus is on Vanes. If I win this fight, I will think about Canelo. Mexican style is true fight. It’s not fake. This is big gift to people," he added.

Taking place at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, Martirosyan will be moving up in weight to take on the mighty challenge of Golovkin who has reigned supreme over the Middleweight division.

Though he goes in as the heavy underdog, 31-year-old Martirosyan believes fate has brought him to this place and he is ready to cause an upset that will rock the boxing world.

"This is my destiny fight," Martirosyan said. "This is everything I have dreamed of. Triple G and I will put on a good fight. I can’t wait for Saturday. Don King, thanks for believing in me. We’ve done all the talking. Now we will do the fight," Martirosyan said at the press conference.

Saturday night’s card also sees Ryan ‘Blue Chip’ Martin facingAmir Khan conquerorBreidis Prescott and unified women's Welterweight Champion CeciliaBraekhus taking on KaliReis.
