While most of the focus on the weekend of September 16th will be on the highly anticipated middleweight clash between IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin and challenger Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, Golden Boy Promotions is staging a televised show on that Friday night from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
"The main event is now going to be Claudio Marrero defending his WBA interim featherweight title against Jesus Rojas," said Robert Diaz, matchmaker for Golden Boy Promotions.
As for the rest of the featured bouts on ESPN2 that night, Diaz told BoxingScene.com - "Rashidi Ellis was moved to the co-main event and he's facing Juan Carlos Abreu." Ellis is a steadily developing welterweight in Abreu he is facing what Diaz described as, "a tough guy, strong guy."
Rounding out this telecast will be one of Golden Boy's young prospects.
"Ryan Garcia will be opening it up, fighting for a junior NABF title, eight rounds," said Diaz, of the 19-year old lightweight from Los Angeles, California.
The Canelo vs. Golovkin HBO Pay-Per-View takes place a few blocks away at the T-Mobile Arena. Golden Boy announced the full pay-per-view undercard on Monday.
