Donatas Bondorovas has agreed to box Glen Tapia in an Oct. 4 fight at Bally’s Event Center in Atlantic City.

The non-televised, 10-rounder will be contested at 155 pounds and will mark Tapia’s second fight since suffering a sixth-round technical knockout defeat to hard-hitting James Kirkland on Dec. 7 in Atlantic City.

Lithuania’s Bondorovas (18-5-1, 6 KOs) has lost two of his past three bouts, most recently to Willie Monroe Jr. (18-1, 6 KOs) on Feb. 28 in Hammond, Ind. Bondorovas’ unanimous-decision defeat to Monroe was part of ESPN’s 2014 Boxcino Middleweight Tournament.

The 34-year-old Bondorovas’ previous loss came against Bryan Vera (23-8, 14 KOs), who stopped the Chicago resident on cuts after seven rounds of a fight Bondorovas was losing on all three scorecards in March 2013 in Verona, N.Y.

The 24-year-old Tapia (21-1, 13 KOs), of Passaic, N.J., was supposed to face France’s Salim Larbi (19-5-2, 7 KOs) on July 26 at Madison Square Garden, but their eight-round fight was abruptly scrapped from the Gennady Golovkin-Daniel Geale undercard before Tapia weighed in July 25 (https://www.boxingscene.com/duva-on-hopkins-kovalev-ac-it-belonged--81323).

The New York State Athletic Commission denied Tapia’s request for a license based on what the NYSAC’s medical staff determined was an abnormality in a blood test similar to those Tapia passed for previous fights in New York, New Jersey, Florida, Nevada and Pennsylvania. Sal Alessi and Pat Lynch, Tapia’s co-managers, said Monday that Tapia is expected to be cleared soon by a hematologist for his Oct. 4 return.

Tapia stopped journeyman Keenan Collins (15-9-3, 10 KOs) in the first round of his lone bout since Kirkland defeated him. That June 14 victory over Collins lasted just one minute and 22 seconds at Bally’s in Atlantic City.

Tapia resumed training Monday at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Club in preparation for the Bondorovas bout. Tickets ($75, $50) to the Oct. 4 card, promoted by Top Rank, will go on sale Friday (800-736-1420; ticketmaster.com).
