WBO super middleweight world champion Gilberto Ramirez would love to secure a fight with Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin. The unbeaten Mexican feels ready to accept the challenge of Golovkin right now.

Recently, his promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank informed BoxingScene.com that there are ongoing talks to stage a fight against Golovkin in early 2017.

Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs), who holds the WBC/WBA/IBF/IBO middleweight world titles, is looking to face Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in the fall. If Canelo is not possible, then Golovkin will go after the last remaining belt, the WBO, which is held by Billy Joe Saunders.

Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) of Sinaloa captured the title with a dominating victory over longtime veteran Arthur Abraham on April 9 in Las Vegas. He is scheduled to make the first defense of that title against Dominik Britsch (32-2, 11 KO) on July 23 at the MGM Grand. It will be the co-feature matchup to the HBO Pay-Per-View junior welterweight unification between Viktor Postol and Terence Crawford.

The Mexican will make another defense of his title, if all goes well in July, on a date in the fall.

Ramirez only has one stipulation, he wants the full super middleweight limit of 168-pounds. At one time there were talks for Golovkin to face Andre Ward, and a catch-weight of 164 was requested - and rejected by Ward for safety reasons. Ramirez also has safety concerns about cutting weight, which is why he wont fight at anything less than the division limit.

"Golovkin needs to go up to 168. I can not fight at anything less - unless they cut off my leg. Whoever wants to fight at 168, we are ready," Ramirez said.

Regarding the fight between Golovkin and Canelo, Ramirez is not siding with his countryman to pull it out.

"It would be a very difficult fight for the two of them, but I think at that weight Triple G would beat Canelo. It's the fight people want to see ... I'd be very interested in watching that fight and seeing who the winner would be," Ramirez said.
