Gennady Golovkin Will Help Build Playground in His Hometown

Unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs), who is visiting Kazakhstan, will support the construction of a children's playground in his hometown in Karaganda.

After a meeting with the Governor of the Karaganda region Yerlan Koshanov, Gennady commented that the new park will be built in the 13th district as part of a social program.

"It was our President Nursultan Nazarbayev who motivated businessmen and successful people to build schools and other facilities in their hometowns, and this initiative has been supported by many successful Kazakhs," Governor Koshanov said.

Golovkin said it is a wonderful initiative and promised to join it: "I would love to join this program and build the playground in the area where I grew up. I fully support the initiative of our President," he said. The new playground is expected to be built in the coming weeks."

Golovkin is scheduled to defend his IBO, WBA, WBC, IBF middleweight world titles against Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) on September 16th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
