The WBA has issued a ruling that will leave Gabriel Campillo as the number one contender in the light heavyweight rankings so he is able to get a title shot in the near future. The WBA's Intercontinental champion Vyacheslav Uzelkov (22-0, 14KOs) gets first crack at full champion Beibut Shumenov (9-1, 6KOs). Campillo lost a very controversial decision to Shumenov in their rematch earlier this year. The WBA rejected Campillo's petition for an immediate rematch but decided to leave him as the number one contender to allow him a chance to possibly fight the winner.

"I have received many e-mails from Spanish fans to whom I appreciate your patience and hope they understand that we have made every effort to uphold Gabriel Campillo's rights. Given that we can not pass over the result and the local regulations, the world championship committee decided to appoint Gabriel Campillo as the official challenger in order to allow him in the near future to fight for the title he held with pride and honor," said WBA Vice President Gilbert Mendoza.
