What's up buddy? I went and saw John McLaughlin on his farewell tour last night and my god it was incredible! The opener was a new fusion band from Jimmy Herring (guitar player for jam band Widespread Panic) called The Invisible Whip and they were a present day Mahavishnu Orchestra. Hell of a drummer named Jeff Sipe. Then John's band 4th dimension came on and did some of John's old solo stuff. Then Invisible Whip came back out and both bands together played about 10 Mahavishnu songs. John's playing is out of this world. And Herring was influenced by him and Al Di Meola and had a similar style to Al so they were dueling solos all night and harmonizing together so wonderful. I joked to my friend that Cobham was so good they needed two drummer to replace him lol, but really both drummers were great fusion drummers and having two the whole show was just icing on the cake. Definitely a show I will never forget and glad I got to see him before he packs it in.
