Back in December 2011 Amir Khan was a top 5 P4P boxer going into the ring to fight top contender Lamont Peterson in what was supposed to be the fight before Mayweather.
Floyd was the undisputed number 1 in the game, and had been for some years, but those in the know, just knew that his toughest test, and maybe his boogeyman, would be the man with the lightening hands - Amir "King" Khan.
Conspiracy theories still exist that Floyd Mayweather made sure that Amir Khan did not get the decision to avoid fighting him, just like when Khan won the poll vs his left-overs Maidana, Floyd still took the easier option.
It was not Khan's best night against Peterson, but he won it by 5-6 points in reality. Amir always had slight vulnerability to power punches, but he could walk through Mayweather throwing his amazing combinations and matching his older and slower rival for skill.
People criticize Amir Khan now because of his confidence in his ability, but it is justified. This is a man who knocked out a prime Marcos Antonio Barrera, knocked out a better than ever Zab Judah, beat Maidana handily, and finished the career at the top level of former superstar Devon Alexander.
Not forgetting giving multiple round boxing lessons to Canelo Alvarez and Danny Garcia, and going 50-50 with current P4P number 1 Terrence Crawford before a low blow called an end to proceedings.
Khan looked superb in his July outing. A destruction of world level Billy Dib that nobody saw coming. May or September 2020 we will see Amir Khan vs Floyd Mayweather in the biggest bout in history.
Amir Khan said. "I respect Floyd, but we all knew then, that I was the man to beat him. Floyd went through everyone, but there's one piece missing to his jigsaw. If he truly is TBE or the GOAT as he keeps saying. Then prove it. Come face the King."
