  • BoxingScene Championship Percentage

It has been suggested a BoxingScene Champion should only be announced when the winner wins a certain percentage of the poll.

Do y'all agree? Should the winner have to secure at least 30%? 40, 50, 60? Any?

    Just the majority decision.

I went with 80. Once you get that, everyone else is most likely a whiner or hater or they just have a different opinion that most others don't have. 80 % is very solid although it could be hard to attain as well. Looks like 70 % is in the lead and is pretty realistic imo.

51%. Or half the voters plus one.

My first thought was a staright majority... ie, above 50% - but a flat 50% shouldn't be recognised even if it takes the largest share (ie when there's 3 or more options).

The higher you set the bar the less likely there is to be a consensus but also the more acceptance there'll be, and to my mind for this endeavour it's kinda important that we make sure the posters are behind the decision, so I think just setting the bar a bit higher is a good idea.

          Voted 60% in the end.

            What about number of voters?

It'd be kind of unfair for like 8 people to decide who is the community's champions. Then again, if only 8 people vote I guess there is no interest, but also, if there is no interest and the main goal is user support shouldn't the lack of interest be noted?

I understand wanting poster support. I've been pimping the HWs thread all morning, mostly to Fury fans, to get a higher, more clear, percentage on that poll. Fury being the leader for a while now I thought maybe with a little nudging he could take it by at least 40% but nope. Still at like 34% to 32% tied second.

Personally, I favor keeping it simple. I voted 50% because I like to keep the polls interesting but I really ought to knock that off actually. I've voted a few times just to spite the leader and make the race closer

Anyway, personally, my feelings are the same as the vacant question itself; let's keep it simple. declare a champion of the two or more champions. There must not be a vacant. Doesn't matter if no man earned it or if people can't agree, there must be one champion per division. The only thing, in my mind, that deviates from simply asking a, b, c, or d is when an undisputed takes it out of our hands.

But, that's not really for me to dictate to y'all. If y'all want vacants, clear percentage winners, or number of votes, or anything else, I'll poll it and honor the poll.

Bit of a thorny one. For the pick ems I got a set number of regular players so if I'm canvassing for what fights to put in tend to go with a threshold of 50% (which is about 20 votes as things stand). For this, we've got an indeterminate number -potentially hundreds - of NSB users even if most are either no longer active or never post. Added to that you're never gonna get close to 100% response even with multiple reminders and stuff. I worked in a Public Health research unit for a time and 65 - 70% was considered pretty damn good, though I gotta admit just 7 or 8 votes for some of these guys ain't exactly a resounding endorsement.

I'd say let it run on a few weeks, try to draw attention to it and I will too - maybe drop it into convos when you see someone whining about the sanctioning orgs - and I'm sure a few others like Tony Pony will too, then just call it. Declare whoever wins to be 'the NSB people's champs' or somesuch with as much fanfare as possible... if that doesn't bring out an outcry and a some votes I don't know what will. Hopefully the guys who don't agree will want to vote it down and that will then be countered by others bringing the numbers up - who knows? You just gotta try it and see sometimes.
