What Fighters Do You Think Could've Been Amazing, But Fell Short?

    Explain your pick, below.

    My Pick

Adrien Broner: Didn't people hype this guy up as the next Floyd Mayweather? Dude won 3 world titles, just to get his career derailed by Maidana. No wonder Mayweather won't let Davis fight Loma. I think Broner received stardom before he really deserved it. Not only that, but I think his antics outside of the ring really did a number on him. I couldn't count how many times I've seen or heard, "If Broner took boxing seriously..." Dude is past his prime, at 28. He's pretty much a gatekeeper, after his performance against Mikey Garcia. Honestly, I don't think he'd be that great, even if he did start taking boxing seriously.

Alexander Povetkin: Underrated and a modern day Mike Tyson. I wouldn't say he fell short but he simply never received as much credit from the Western fans as much as they most likely would've, had he been an American or a British. None of that really is his fault or under his control. And the PED nonsense somewhat ruined his career as well. Which anyone objective and sufficiently knowledgeable would know is a tool to protect certain fighters from risky opponents or to unfairly ruin an athlete's career due to specific agendas.

Lucas Matthysse, he had a good skillset but if he'd hooked up with a great trainer earlier on he would've been where Maidana was at!

No one on his corner showed him how to get rough in the clinches and how to fight out the clinch!

He's a very hard puncher so of course his opponents will try to smother his work, use range and clinch him but yet gis coach never worked with him on how to approach these problems!

He could parry jabs, counter jabs, great stamina, decent head movement but that should be better!

His manager screwed him over, how do you leave Haymon and go with Oscar who lined you up to fail!

You don't go from a war that takes years off your career and then jump straight into a title bout against someone who's an absolute stylistic nightmare for you!

This entire post is loaded in stone cold facts.

Completely agree. Going off topic, in terms of mismanagement, Matthysse and Brook are the 2 names that spring to mind.

Matthysse should have stuck with Uncle Al, Oscar doesn't know how to promote anyone other than Canelo. Sending Matthysse into Postol in the same ****ing year he fought Provodnikov was a ******ed decision

Zab Judah had an amazing skillset but lacked heart. Only man to ACTUALLY knock Floyd Mayweather down.

i remember floyd saying he warned broner not to fight maidana. he jumped two divisions to fight the biggest puncher at the weight. yeah he faced paulie with the feather fists but going from that to maidana is night and day.

but my pick would be joan guzman. this dude had all the talent in the world. one of the best defenses I ever seen. I rememer he was being trained by floyd sr in 2007 and they were calling out pacquiao. I remember back then saying he would've been a style nightmare for manny. but it never happened. he suffered from lack of dedication to the sport.

a more recent guy I would pick also is rigondeaux. the guy shot himself in the foot with inactivity and continually stinking out the arena with lackluster performances. no it wasn't the "system" it was his crappy management team and his refusal to make exciting fights. he was constantly matched with bums on the big stage and still felt safe just cruising to a win under an avalanche of boo's. those guys he accused of ducking were never under any pressure because rigo was turning off so many fans. and with his quit job vs loma he buried himself.

broner is still young and thanks to his personality (even if you hate it) he continues getting opportunities on the big stage. he still has time to achieve greatness. first thing I'll do is fire his trainer. broner doesn't respect that guy at all. a boxer who respects his coach wont destroy their own bodies like broner does with alcohol and night life. that guys voice carries no weight. i think robert garcia will be a perfect trainer for him. the culture in the garcia camp is boxing all day and discipline.

mike tyson. made a case for both HoF and ATG with his early work,, then let it all go when his head went. if he'd held it to even just 33 he would have been a ock with joe louis and ali for best ever.

I might get flamed, but Amir Khan.

He never learned how to roll with punches, or how tovtransition from offense to defense and viceversa. And never learned how to smother opponents in clinch and fight oj inside.

He was either 100% onthe offense, or fully in defense with his gloves/guard up. This made it easy for opponents to figure him put and time him.

Loma had a brilliant amateur career but fell short against an old man Salidoe.

Guess he isn't as good without head gear.
