RING Event of the Year: Canelo-Golovkin? Laughable! (GBP BIAS ALERT)

I bring to you another example of the abhorrent bias that has ruined the once proud RING Magazine. The magazine's owner, Oscar De La Hoya, instructed the staff to award the Event of the Year to Canelo-Golovkin over Mayweather-McGregor (obvious winner) or even Joshua-Klitschko.

The funniest part is that they justify it by mentioning the $27M gate when Mayweather-McGregor did $55M at the gate and the 17K in attendance when Joshua-Klitschko did 90K.

    Mayweather-McGregor
    4.3M US PPV buys @ $100
    $55M live gate revenue
    13,094 paid attendance

    Canelo-Golovkin
    1.3M US PPV buys @ $80
    $27M live gate revenue
    17,318 paid attendance

    Joshua-Klitschko
    1.2M UK PPV buys
    £8M live gate revenue (~$10.8M)
    90,000 attendance

That fight was a real disappointment for most and hardly FOTY. May/Mac was for idiots and casuals.
If we're talking about high-profile fights, Wlad/AJ was the only one that can really hold it's head up high as being both a huge success, and a great fight.

      Ring is so shameless.

I dont have a problems with this, I still havent seen Mayweather vs. the cage fighters - for what? Klisthcko was a cherry pick for A.J coming off an L over 40 years old and inactive.

We all know Canelo-GGG was the legitimate fight for the lineal title at 160. I loved it.

Let's be honest... GGg vs Alvarez was talked about way before Floyd vs McGregor. Nobody would've thought that this matchup would happen. Floyd and Conor's general following on social media tower over Nelo and GGG, given that fact and the Kazakh Mexican record, GBP and K2 did actually quite well. Joshua vs Klitschko didn't beat Tyson vs Lewis... also there's rumors now that Hearn been buying tickets and selling them after market lol. Doesnt seem illegal to do...and yet, those tickets are dirt cheap to begin with. Marketing strategies seem elementary compared to the diehars ticket goers in the states

I ain’t watched that BS either and I laid £1400 on Floyd to stop him.
I also enjoyed the Canelo-GGG fight I thought it was a solid action fight and can’t understand why it gets so much hate

When Oscar the promoter bought the magazine it's credibility took a nose dive.

It would have been if they hadn't paid Adalaide Byrd off.

Mayweather vs Mcgregor was a circus and shouldn't considered for the boxing event of the year.

Joshua vs Wlad was a big fight and could be considered but in reality, it was a prospect fighting a fading former champion coming off a rather one-sided lost. Passing of the touching moment.

Canelo vs GGG was a big fight between two of P4P best in the world for most of the Middleweight titles. It was hyped for years and outside of the decision lived up to the hype.

The event of the year for me was the downfall of Chocolatito. Right when the guy started getting hyped as an ATG and Floyd's successor, he got knocked off.
