  • Why doesnt Roc Nation pay Rigo?

No one has answered this question when asked as a counter argument.

Its always Loma and Arum gave Rigo a low ball offer.

Ward got 6 mil for 130k buys. Rigo got 120k and lower ever since he left Bob.

People hate Arum so much or Loma for some reason which i think we all know why some hate Loma that they lose all sense of reality.

Rigo 500k is not a lowball he has no backing Loma does. He would be lucky to get that now since hbo and Arum are on a budget so 200-300k Rigo should take.

Arum has a plan for future for his fighters with the espn deal hes thinking of ways to keep top rank alive. Rigo has no future and Roc Nation doesn't seem stable.

Also arum didn't kick Rigo out because of Nonito, Rigo had other promoters and had Gary Shaw as a manager. Rigo wasn't exclusively Arums fighter they were hard to work with and Shaw and Rigos small town promoters also had some problems. Arum didn't need that headache by someone who draws nothing yet demands big deals. Shaw also left and Rigo wouldn't leave his small time promoters because of loyalty that they brought him to America.

Rigo left Arum a million years ago.
You can't keep on blaming someone you're no longer with.
Even Donaire is no longer with Arum.
At some point you have to take responsibility for your own career.

Roc I believe is getting out of the boxing business.

Roc Nation has been losing money left and right. With the $50 million dollar contract deal with Cotto that was broken to release Cotto. Cotto not only took most of the $50 million but when they broke his contract he was payed a large undisclosed sum to be released from the contract. The Cotto-Canelo fight was good for Roc Nation but not the Geale fight and the sum payed to release him from contract.

Ward was payed what $5 million or more for the first Kovalev fight, $6.5 million for the second Kovalev fight, the PPV's flopped and they lost money.

Rigo does deserve to be payed way more, but Roc Nation has been losing money instead of making money.

Rigo should try to do what Cotto did and try to get released from his Roc Nation contract and shop around for a promoter/manager that can help advance his career. Roc Nation is definitely not the place for Rigo.

You know Al Haymon will get Rigo payed.

why didnt Al sign Rigo then? Rigo tried but nothing. Guess he didn't need him when he has Frampton,Mares,LSC,Russell.

Hmmm.....that's a good question. Rigo should defintely try to get released from his contract though and entertain offers from different promoters and managers. He should have better luck this time in signing with someone. He definitely should be trying to free himself from Roc Nation.

I'm a Rigo fan, but I think fans gotta be realistic about the economics of boxing.

If you are paying fighters $10M for a card that isn't making $10M or more in revenue more often then not thats a problem & unattainable long term.

One of the things I've realized listening to a guy like One Punch who had skin in the game at one point (& maybe still does, idk) + looking at the more widely available business of boxing stories out there that we all see is that far too much about boxing is based on upon some future yet unseen money grab type outcome. Thats not a model that very many companies will be successful in as its high risk, high reward.

So while I respect fighters trying to max out there payday the health of the overall sport depends on realistic paydays based upon your ability to put asses in seats & generate revenue, not on your skill level. Or at least thats how things work now. If you want it to work some other way we need to re-structure a lot of stuff in the sport & how you go about that is a highly debatable thing.

The reason Rigo can't get any fights is because he asks for too much.

In reality, Rigo vs Cruz/Frampton/Loma/etc are good fights. But most of the revenue is for the other guy. Rigo needs to accept his $100K offers and go with it. Rigo doesn't offer enough when Loma/Cruz/Frampton can fight bums for the same price.

Agree with thread. All spot on. Rigo screwed up his own career and doesn't draw anymore, and Arum is a promoter, and a damn good one at that. Not sure where he gets the hate from.
