  • De La Hoya on Mannix podcast - Interesting

Worth listening to. De La Hoya has some really honest moments mixed in with promoter bs...but with him it is always easy to tell when he's being a boxing fan and when he's lying.

    Notes:
Takes an immediate shot at DiBella in the first few words of the entire podcast.

Also, he gives away that Cotto and Lemieux is looking good for the end of the year.

He says his 19 year old fighter named Virgil Ortiz stopped Mattyhysse in the gym.

Tells Haymon fighters who never know when their next fight is going to happen to call him, because he will actually plan out their career.

Tries to defend HBO but also gives Showtime props for a very good year.

Calls Anthony Joshua the savior of the heavyweight division but says Canelo is the savior of the sport.

Almost gives his cell number out on the podcast twice

Bets Mannix a beer that HBO will have a great year next year. Awkard silence from Mannix after that lol

Sounds like he could be a little (or a lot) drunk

Nobody stabbed Oscar in the back. He created his own problems with drugs, alcohol, and bad decisions. Like lying to Stephen Espinoza about staying with Showtime then jumping to HBO & didn't even have the courtesy to tell Showtime

Where are they gonna fight, on his LA fight club series? The dates are so far and few between on HBO that Arum had to find other ways to get his fighters fights

Just listened to this. Good podcast episode & if you aren't listening to any podcasts this is definitely one you should listen to cuz Mannix doesn't have the typical hack conversations with guests & he has high quality guests.

I like the part where he talked about Vergil Ortiz KOing Matthysse in sparring. I'm a fan of this Ortiz kid already, but that makes me even more curious what he can do cuz Matthysse is a bad mofo & Ortiz has done nothing in the pro game as of yet so yea sparring "wins" don't mean sh^t but where each guy is at in there respective careers says a lot about what this kid could be capable of based on that going down at all.

lol c'mon man. You know the answer to that.

But the point of the thread is that this is an interesting podcast to listen to. It isn't to debate Oscar's morality, decision making, or past problems with his business partners.
