[PLEASE HELP] Anyone else get really bad Anxiety in the Gym?

So I've decided to embark on a new fitness regimen. But I have to say I'm finding the whole gym thing very underwhelming. Most of the guys here are all 'buffed up' so to speak, and have a certain type of 'swagger' that seems a bit brutish and intimidating.

I hate the fact that you have to queue up so much to get access to the weights, and I feel really insecure about my strength (I've never really lifted before, only the really small dumbbells in high school).

I can only bench 50 pounds (I do it for 10 reps and 4 sets, haven't tried maxing out) and it feels really awkward when people are waiting, I overheard someone ask their friend "are those 25's"? I believe they were referring to the plates on the barbell I was using. Also it feels like people don't respect me in here, I've had people brazenly jump in front of me in the queue when I was distracted watching the women doing cardio, also someone stole my whey protein shaker I carried around with me when I left it next to the sit up machine and forgot to bring it with me to the treadmill. Wtf is this shenanigans about?

My session feels so impeded by the presence of others that I'm considering building a home gym instead. I might try building my strength up to a respectable level before returning, because right now it feels to awkward. Do any long time gym **** have any tips for getting over nervousness in the gym?

The gains WILL come if you put in the time and effort.

Once you blast through your noob gains, though, it gets a bit dicey. You either gotta take 'roids, or really work hard with heavy weight and low reps to make more gains.

Anyway - I don't know what to say about the insecurity other than EVERYBODY was once at the point you are now when they first started lifting.

I would recommend to find a gym that allows members 24/7 access so you can go at times when nobody is there (plenty of them in major metropolitan areas), or a HUGE gym like a planet fitness where you'll always find an open bench, or machine.

If you happen to go on a day where it's crowded - just use the machines. Also, the smith machine will make you look a bit stronger than you are - you can do a bit heavier weight on it - heheh.

        Stay persistent buddy

It's a great idea to join the gym and I can totally understand the anxious feeling you may get
        But keep going
It won't take long to build some momentum which will create some confidence

Maybe consider bringing a friend along ? Or perhaps training at a different hour (if possible)

They may seem intimidating but they are just *****cats

        Keep going mate

I'm sorry but I can't stop laughing from reading this thread.

Of course I'm only talking about the plates doofus!

As if you were involved with the JV teams anyway. You were probably reading one of your gay romance novels in the library.

You might be fresh off the boat, but when we talk about weight we add the bar.

                    Dumbass lightweight.

Coming in here looking ****** and then get mad at me because you're a pitiful faggot
