Default machines

do you guys think working out on a weight machine is any better than working out with free weights for strength?

yes, machines offer more control and isolation of the exact muscle group you're trying to work. if you dont have flawless technique with free weights then you're not getting the full effect out of using them. out of all the articles ive read on building muscle i could'nt even tell you how many times ive seen writers talk about common mistakes with doing free weight exercises the wrong way.

Its very similar. Your muscles do not know if its free weight or machine weights. They just know that they have to work to lift it.

Free weights are better because they offer better flexibility.

Machines are pointless if you're an athlete because what's the point in 'isolating' a muscle group anyways. If you're an athlete 9 times out of ten you want to get bigger, faster, stronger. If you're doing machine squat you're only working legs, but with the barbell you're working back, calves, hams, quads, all at ONCE.
