  • JDS vs Nelson gets Carwin ??

The loser of Roy Nelson v Junior Dos Santos may not want to dwell on defeat for long at UFC 117, after UFC UK president Marshall Zelaznik hinted that their 'reward' for losing is likely to be Shane Carwin.

Nelson and Dos Santos are favourites to walk away with Fight of the Night honours in Oakland this weekend, as two heavyweights with huge knockout power meet head-on. Nelson's big right hand has accounted for Brendan Schaub and Stefan Struve in his two UFC bouts to date, while Dos Santos has stopped Struve, Fabricio Werdum, Mirko Cro Cop, Gilbert Yvel and Gabriel Gonzaga.

Following Carwin's impressive, if ultimately failed, attempt to beat Brock Lesnar last month, there are less than a handful of names worthy of a place in the Octagon with the powerhouse right now, and Nelson and Dos Santos head that queue.
Zelaznik could not confirm what stands ahead for either man, but he did confess that Carwin is an obvious match-up waiting to happen - most likely against the loser on Saturday night.

"Shane Carwin is a man people would love to have a win over on their record," Zelaznik told ESPN.co.uk. "His performance against Brock Lesnar was so good that he only sits one or two fights away from a return to a title shot.

"Junior Dos Santos and Roy Nelson are the two names that, come hell or high water, Shane is going to have to face.
"Joe [Silva] has a tendency to match fighters who are coming off losses in order to give them their chance to turn things around. So how the Nelson v Dos Santos fight plays out may have a bearing on Shane Carwin."
