After Mayweather and Pacquiao retire, who will be the cash cow of boxing?

I never bother with the whole popularity thing, but reading this made me think - I can't think of anyone right now (besides the Klitschkos in Europe) who could draw as much money from a worldwide audience in a US-based fight, individually, as Mayweather and Pacquiao.

There are heaps of talented stars in the making and stars we currently have, but none are megastars in the sport. In the '80s and '90s we had Tyson; in the '90s and '00s we had De La Hoya; in the '00s we have Mayweather and Pacquiao. But when it comes to the '10s, I really can't think of anyone right now who can replace them as the PPV kings - the household names - of boxing.

    Can you?

Unless Dirrell can somehow manage to win the Super 6... which I don't think he will. I don't know who will become the next 'cash cow', there are good guys out there but they aren't vocal enough or pretty enough to bring in large crowds.

Dirrell, I can see him being a controversial loud mouth if he was to win out the Super 6. Which will polarize him and he will be capable of bringing in large crowds.

Its going to be difficult to replace these two but just remember that neither men started out as cash cows and it took them the majority of their careers to build themselves into such. Can't think of anyone right now because its going to take someone who puts in the work to promote themselves as such. Theirs going to be great fights and fighters for sure but a next cash cow isn't someone we can just pick they have to be chosen by the people. Always happens that way.

And when I talk about cash cows, I'm talking more about their ability to sell fights on personality and charisma. Yes, the bunch we have now are supremely talented, but I don't see any of them - whether it's Dirrell, Alvarez, Khan, Bradley, Bute or whoever - being able to transcend boxing and become a name that every household will know about.

One's mouth is usually what drives PPV sales, and right now nobody has a credible mouth to their name. Skills pay bills, but to be a cash cow you need that 'X factor'... which nobody has right now IMO.

We were asking the same thing once DLH started getting older and he took that two year semi retirement before the Mayorga fight.

Everyone was wondering who'd be the next star.

Too be honest, if Mayweather or Pacquiao stick around long enough to lose, then the guy who beats them will be the next cash cow

                I'm leaning towards Saul Alvarez.
