It's sad that Duran had to make up for such a padded record when he was old and way past his prime.

Duran's challenges at Lightweight were hardly murderers row.

They were the best the division could offer at the time and all skilled fighters if you've watched them on tape.

The problem with the 'world champions' thing is: Do we count the alphabet belt champions? Its a lot easier to fight world champions when theres 4+ belts.

because if so, then De La Hoya probably fought a ton of them.

23.

So I sort of think we should do it by eras...ie the 4 belts era, the 2 belts era, the 1 belt era, etc. otherwise, its just not fair for the older generation.

Heavyweights..

Joe Louis fought 10 World Champions. All men were LHW or HW champion of the world at one point in their careers. Jim Braddock, John Henry Lewis, Billy Conn, Ezzard Charles, Max Baer, Jersey Joe Walcott, Primo Carnera, Rocky Marciano, Max Schmeling, Jack Sharkey

Muhammad Ali fought 12 World Champions Trevor Berbick, Larry Holmes, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Leon Spinks, Sonny Liston, Floyd Patterson, Ernie Terrell, Archie Moore, Ken Norton, Bob Foster & Jimmy Ellis

Mike Tyson also fought 12 World Champions Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Tony Tubbs, Michael Spinks, Larry Holmes, Buster Douglas, Frank Bruno, Bruce Seldon, Trevor Berbick, Tony Tucker, Pinklon Thomas, James Smith

I'm going to start going further back to see what I can find.

Edit: Was just about to start Oscar De La Hoya but the guy above me done it. Good stuff, I knew he'd be a top contender. The guys of the modern era get away with it so easy. They can fight for the WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF & Ring Magazine belts. Soon they'll also be fighting for the IBO belts. Compare that to Joe Louis who fought 10 WORLD Champions from LHW to HW. It's easy fighting 20 guys who've all held 1 of the 5 (soon to be 6) title available.
