Default need some advice

i started boxing 3 weeks ago, ive been training hard but still im not working on my technique. im still doin cardio and pushups only and my trainer for some reason doest want to show me how to fight. the thing is yesterday a friend of mine got beaten up and even though i wasnt there i still feel useless and ive had enough, i wanna learn how to throw punches. dont misunderstand me, i do NOT get into fights frequently and i dont wanna box just to go out and beat people on the street, but in case something like that happens again i wanna be able to do something without gettin my ass whooped

should i ask my trainer to teach me or should i wait untill he shows me?
thx in advance
