WVR announces "King Mo" vs. Kawamura, GP competitors
World Victory Road has officially announced a light-heavyweight bout between rising prospect Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal (3-0) and Ryo Kawamura (9-3-2) for its March 20 Sengoku Seventh Battle event.
The organization also announced a handful of competitors for the opening round of its featherweight grand prix, including Chris Manuel, Hatsu Hioki, Marlon Sandro, Nick Denis and Ronnie Ushiwaka.
The event takes place March 20 at the National Yoyogi Stadium in Tokyo, Japan.
Lawal, a former NCAA Division II national wrestling champion and 2008 Olympic hopeful, has fought exclusively for WVR since his professional MMA debut in September 2008. He's since posted TKO victories over 66-fight veteran Travis Wiuff, Fabio Silva and Yukiya Naito.
The Team Quest fighter will now meet Kawamura, a longtime Pancrase fighter who transitioned into WVR last year. He most recently scored a unanimous-decision win over Keiichiro Yamamiya at an October Pancrase event.
