Default Skins and tracksters- do they prevent injuries?

My physiotherapist told me about this product. There is alot of info in their 'How it works' Video.

Nike Pro Compression for football:
http://www.prodirectsoccer.com/stati...e.asp?ART=1554

I've seen B-Hop wearing these for his runs and his training, and he wears the shorts during fights too. Pasquale Chimbonda wears the bottoms under his shorts during games, as alot of footballers do in training. My mateis a footballer and said his physio told him they will prevent him hamstring from snapping again and that they help get rid of lactic acid. Nike Pro Compressions make a good top, and almost every Prem footballer wears the tops nowadays. I'd like to know how effective everyone thinks they are, and if anyone has used these or running bottoms please do tell me how much of a difference it makes before I splash out on a full set!

no idea mate, sounds like bollocks to me.

basically it says skintight clothes help reduce lactic acid buildup? how does that work then?

The compression on the muscles increases blood circulation which speeds up the oxygen supply to them, and the lactic acid being taken away from them. Check out the vid on the Skins website, it explains alot. What i didn't like is their boast that theirs does it better than others.

Footballers and physios swear by it. B-Hop has stayed fit for a long time too! If anyone has been involved in either fields, maybe they can care to share a second opinion?

I think i'm going to go for the cheapo running pants and see how that works before buying them expensive Skins. I need them anyway because the perspiration under my sauna suit bottoms gets hit with the icy wind/drafts when I finish running or take a break between rounds. I need advice before splashing out on the full set of skins: tops + bottoms for training and shorts and socks for fights!

doesn't compression reduce circulation? isn't that why you're supposed to apply pressure to a wound?

That is a completely different scenario. The compression on the muscles is light, so it brings more blood to the surface. It's not like pressing down HARD on a wound to stop the blood coming out. To date, I have only used the shorts when I was playing league games in football and they were good. They prevented chaffing too, and were the ones worn by cyclists. Now that a peice of my hamstring was used to reconstruct my ligament, it is always sore and I was looking for a solution so I'm looking for my old shorts!

p.s. Has anyone used the ones by Nike Pro Compression:

Can't find any science about them on their websites though!

If anyone has tried either the tops or bottoms out or even normal running bottoms, then please let me know. B-Hop looks like he is wearing same bottoms he uses for running.

I found this video and the testimonials interesting as it highlights some other uses for the garment:

this team were once in top flight:

I finally found my shorts and used them for a run a few hours ago. My calves are still aching! I think i will order the cheaper Ron Hill bottoms to see how it goes before splashing out on a full set of 4 Skin garments. I will keep you posted if they are any good. If anyone else has any experiences on it please do let me know, as I am fed up of buying training equipment that doesn't live up to the billing! I want to be sure before buying the expensive ones.

I use skins regularly, they help with circulation defently, it feels like I can work the legs for longer than normal, especially the quads when doing burpees. Lactic acid is actually benefitial to you during workouts by the way, it's one of the main energy sources for muscles during sustained periods of activity.

where did you get that from? Eh! I always thought it slowed down recovery and felt like a ****. I don't get it too often to be honest because I have been back from injury for a while. I use to get it when I first came back from the op table and it was a pain in the arse but I train through the pain.

Salty, have you used other compression outifts before Skins? How do Skins compare to other brands? I like all the hype on their website but for some reason I am more inclined to trust Saucony, Asics, Nike as they are specialist running brands.
