Boxing fans saw Fernando Vargas score a sixth-round TKO over Fitz Vanderpool in a junior-middleweight bout on Saturday night . MMA fighter Anthony Arria has just signed to fight in the WEC this weekend.

So what's the correlation between boxer Fernando Vargas and MMA fighter Anthony Arria? It was Arria, whose biggest claim to fame so far is being the guy who took out Vargas at a party by choke due to a female friend. Arria, the former boyfriend of the woman Vargas was visiting said Vargas started talking smack and one thing lead to another. Arria then turned it around quickly and choked out Vargas. Arria now doesn't want to be just known as the guy who went at it with Fernando Vargas.

"I'm tired of hearing about Vargas. That was a few years ago. I want fans to know me from my new career and that's mixed martial arts." Arria will be stepping into the cage in just two weeks at the Palace Casino in LeMoore California on August 9th for WEC VII, This Time it's Personal.

Arria, part of the Santa Barbara Fight Team has been training for quite awhile now getting ready for his MMA debut. His trainer, Seth Woodhil is a former Pac-10 Wrestler and a purple belt who won the World Pan American Games says Arria is ready to go. "He has the ability to be in the UFC one day if he puts his mind to it."

Arria will be compeiting in the WEC as a heavyweight. He is 6'0, 250 pounds. His opponent will be Levi Thronbrue who is 5'11 and 235 pounds. Arria said "I'm looking forward to my first walk into the cage. I've trained hard for this opportunity and I look forward to making my mark in the sport of MMA."

WEC Tickets are available at The Palace Indian Gaming Center. The Palace is located just outside Fresno, California. For those of you in the California area, it's just 3 hours from San Francisco and 3 from Los Angeles. Don't miss it, World Extreme Cagefighting, at the Palace in just a couple of weeks.
