Pride Announces Details of Grand Prix 2003
On June 25th, DSE announced 7 fighters who are fighting in the upcoming middleweight tournament, PRIDE GP 2003 (to be held on August 10th in Saitama Super Arena).
Kazushi Sakuraba
Hidehiko Yoshida
Vanderlei Silva
Quinton "Rampage" Jackson
Chuck Liddel
Ricardo Arona
Alistair Overeem
The other name will be announced later and there are many rumors who it could be. One name that we know it most likely WON'T be is a Gracie family member.
MMAWeekly's Scott Petersen reports from Japan that from what he has heard from his contacts is that a Gracie will not fight and it will be another Japanese fighter. Some people believe Yuki Kondo will be the replacement, but no official word has been given from DSE.
Meanwhile the wrestlingobserver said quote that UFC President
Dana White was at the PRIDE FC Grand Prix press conference..."saying Liddell was going to win the tournament for UFC and that UFC has declared war on Pride."
