Default UFC tops cable sports ratings!

In review of the top-rated sports cable programs for the Male 18-34 demographic, UFC 75: CHAMPION vs. CHAMPION, which took place at 02 Arena in London, Saturday, Sept. 8 and telecast on Spike TV, ranks number five overall for year 2007. UFC 75 is outranked only by four Monday Night Football games on ESPN. UFC 75, which featured the first-ever UFC/PRIDE unification title fight between Rampage Jackson vs. Dan Henderson, easily crushed other competition including the 2007 NBA All-Star Game, Home Run Derby, every WWE RAW program, all of the NBA Playoffs games, and had over two million more viewers than Major League Baseball’s historic rivalry “Yankees vs. Red Sox”.

thats great, now we just need more ppv viewers like this. Can you imagine how much more would watch if it were Liddell vs Henderson?? that wouldve been bigger. But yeah mma is the best sport in the world, in my eyes anyways.

I love boxing, but I'm also a big MMA fan.
With Zuffa buying out Pride, we dont have much choice
but to watch UFC. But it's all good as long as they keep on
with good match ups.

does anyone have the numbers for UFC 75?

numbers for the show have to be over 4 million cause WWE raw does that much almost every week.

What, in your opinion, would the main event need to look like for UFC to hit 2 million on pay-per-view buys? Is Fedor a well-known enough name to the avg. UFC fan to spike (no pun) a buyrate? Or does exposure for the company still need to grow to put up a DLH-Mayweather like PPV total?

UFC 75 was the most watched mixed martial arts event ever in North America, drawing 4.7 million viewers, Spike TV officials said in a news release Tuesday.

The Sept. 8 event from the O2 Arena in London, England, featured UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson (Pictures)'s win over PRIDE champ Dan Henderson (Pictures) in a title unification bout. Airing delayed on Spike, the telecast peaked at 5.6 million viewers during Jackson's battle against Henderson.

The show's ratings were particularly strong among men age 18-34 and men 18-49. For those audiences, UFC 75 beat everything on television, Spike officials said, including ABC's NASCAR race and Michigan vs. Oregon college football game, as well as ESPN's Virginia Tech vs. LSU and Notre Dame vs. Penn St. games.

"The ratings are further proof that the tide in American sports is changing," said Kevin Kay, Spike TV general manager. "Young men, who constitute the Spike TV core audience, prefer the incredible action and athleticism of the UFC to more traditional sports."

"Champion vs. Champion" outpaced the previous record -- Tito Ortiz (Pictures) vs. Ken Shamrock (Pictures) III, also broadcast on SpikeTV -- by half a million viewers.

Spike TV said its telecast of UFC 75 had an overall rating of 3.1 (3.0 million homes), including a 5.7 rating for men 18-34 (1.6 million), 4.5 for men 18-49 (2.5 million) and 6.2 for men 25-34 (1.0 million).

The event also had a record-breaking audience at the 02 Arena in London, UFC President Dana White said.

Fedor vs Couture, thats good enough to get the numbers up there with that lame boxing match between dlh/fm. Ya thats awsome that it did get exposure on spike, hopefully this will add in more fans for the ppvs. Now they see what they were missing out on. I still dont understand why all those people watched de la hoya vs floyd mayweather, that was one ****ed up fight.

Honestly, I dont see any match ups right now that would be a bigger draw than Couture vs Ganzaga was. PPV wise that is. Liddell is done.
Diego Sanchez looks to be overrated. Shogun was exposed.
Cro Cop is done too. Just like that the whole outlook changed.
Jackson vs Henderson didnt have that BIG TIME feeling to it.

Imagine if you will, Lesnar joins UFC, wins 12 in a row.
Coulture vs Lesnar, that could be BIG TIME.

Serra vs Hughes???? I dunno.
