it's funny how kovalev is laughed at as being a bit of a joke of a fighter yet he beat (yeah he did) a top 50 ATG in his prime in his country, not bad really

When did that happen? I don't recall anybody calling Kovalev a joke of a fighter during his prime.

However his career was top notch and had a very unbeatable style in his prime. Went undefeated, cleared out 168 and became the top dog at 175lb.

Where does he rank ? Does he crack the Top 50?
Without sitting down to make a list, I would put him in the top 100. Top 50 seems a little high, although he is certainly one of the best ever at 168.

Maybe from some casuals but anybody that knows boxing is aware that Kovalev was a scary fighter during his prime. He was no joke.

Best SMW ever but still not top 50 on the grand scheme. I haven't a list but would think he'd comfortably make a top 100.

100%; olympic gold medalist, super 6 tournament winner stellar resume; perhaps the third best of his generation behind floyd and pac. Fought them all, boxers, punchers, counter punchers. The only thing u can say about ward is that he robbed kov in the first fight. But a lot of great fighters have benefitted from robberies

Not even close. SMW run was overrated, he's fought 3 real challengers in his career, should have lost 1st Kovalev fight, wasted years in contract wars, and retired too early.

If he cemented himself at either 168 or 175 after Kovalev, maybe.
