"He took part in a remarkable 17 fights against opponents who are in or likely to enter the Hall of Fame, going 12-4-1 those bouts. They are Tim Bradley (2-1), Floyd Mayweather (0-1), Marquez (2-1-1), Mosley (1-0), Cotto (1-0), De La Hoya (1-0), Hatton (1-0), Barrera (2-0) and Morales (2-1)."
"No fighter of his era comes close to matching that sparkling resume except perhaps Mayweather, who never lost a fight but didn’t face as many elite opponents as Pacquiao did. For example, Mayweather faced eight opponents in or likely to enter the Hall of Fame (Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez, Cotto, Mosley, Marquez, Hatton, De La Hoya and Gatti)."
This is a clever word trick to sound like it's 17-8. It's actually 9-8 in favor of Manny as far as different opponents go, Floyd never needed rematches with these guys. To be fair Bradley shouldn't have been needed either.

Those guys were way bigger than Pacquiao and are used to fighting equal to their natural weight and in some cases they are the weight bullies not the other way around. Manny fought at a weight where he has to eat 2-4 thousand more calories so that he can make welterweight--because WW is the most lucrative in his time--he was practically handicapping himself when fighting.
His best weight is probably 135-140. It's also the reason knockouts don't happen anymore, it has come to a point where these big guys can take his power. His crazy knockouts happened in lower weights where his power really matters.
Somehow in someway this little guy has overachieved. So much so that he was accused of taking steroids because he was too good. Well, he's 40 now and people are still waiting for a boxer who would do a dela hoya, chavez, camacho, holmes on him. (In other words, Retire him by dominating him because this kind of fighters will continue to fight until someone reminded them that he is already too old for this game.)

This piece is like something written about how great Barry Bonds was, without ever mentioning the suspicions against him. After all, both Pac and Barry never failed any tests. Both were great, then suddenly became much better. Both had heads that grew in size during their 30's.
