At first Cousins on the Warriors makes little sense. He won't even be able to play until the allstar break and even then would be in top shape until the playoffs. He wouldn't be a good fit for a small ball team that likes to keep it's centers on the bench. But possibly the Warriors just wanted to keep off certain teams in the west by taking him.

Also, what else are some of Boogie's attributes? One of the best passing big men in the game, and also one of the best 3 point shooting centers in the game. He can pass and shoot the 3 ball. That is two more reasons, Boogie on GS makes senses.
There are four reasons, plus the one you mentioned, as no other team will have him. That's five reasons why the Warriors would want him.
Now for Cousins... he isn't going to be rushed back from an acl tear. They don't even need him to win another title, so he can come back when he is ready, and work his way back into the game. So it is best for his long term health. He will probably win a title. And no team was going to give a guy with a torn acl a max 4 year, $150 mill deal. Now, he can prove he is back to a player that demands a max contract. Also, the only real knock on Cousins is he is supposedly bad for the locker room. What better way to quash the naysayers, by playing with four other potential hall-of-famers, in a scheme that demands sacrificing personal numbers for whats best for the team?
Demarcus can enter free agency next year, proven he can be part of a cohesive, championship team, that he is fully healthy, and that his skill deserves a max contract.
This deal honestly makes way too much sense for both sides when think about it.
