If the benefits of EU membership outweighed the detrimental aspects then 10+ member states wouldn't be scrambling to leave. They long ago overstepped their role as an intra-European trade negotiation format and turned into a globalist institution mandating reverse-colonialism.

This threat of economic blackmail is pretty much the only thing holding the archaic WW2-era concept together. If the UK gets out of paying or negotiates down to a symbolic quantity then the gun the EU is holding to the heads of hostage-members France, Italy, Sweden, etcetera is loaded with blanks.
