Originally posted by jmrf4435 View Postwooow. I never EVER seen a boxing fan hope for the clinch, then do everything he can to defend wards offensive clinching. It's not fighting on the inside, it's clinching in order to get closer to land a headbutt.
However, when there is only one hand tied up and the other is free, the referee at his discretion can allow both fighters every opportunity to punch themselves out of the break or keep the action in close.
The irony is that Ricky Hatton used to implement this (holding while hitting) strategy all the time and many boxing fans were very irate at referee Joe Cortez for not allowing him to implement it against Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
So why all of a sudden boxing fans want to change the rules when it comes to Andre Ward in particular and their least favorite boxers in general? It's simply called the Marquess of Queensberry rules of boxing.
