Default Joe Louis vs Roy Jones, Jr. 1941

RJJ at heavy and LHW for that matter, was bigger than Billy Conn and had a similar style. We all saw the trouble that Conn's movement gave to Louis. So let's say that the Jones who beat Ruiz replaced Billy Conn vs Joe Louis. How does this match up go?

"RJJ at heavy and LHW for that matter, was bigger than Billy Conn"

Jones 5' 11"
Conn 6' 1.5"

Both were at their best at 175lbs. so how is Jones the bigger man?

Jones would wear sneakers against Louis and never stop running.

Ray
Conn weighed in the 160's, at least sometimes, for his fights at LHW. Granted, I didn't account for the super middle division not existing during Conn's time. But at HW, Jones was 193 pounds I think while Conn vs Louis was at most 174, some sources say he may have even been 168 or 169. So Jones would have been bigger at HW but with the same or approximate skill level as Conn. I think Louis would KO Jones, eventually, but Jones may have his moments.

Louis would send Jones Jaw on mars with a left hook.

Jones didn't have the chin to compete with a master boxer and big puncher like Louis. He knew how to cut off the ring and make you pay for any flaws in your game. I see Louis by KO in late rounds. Jones wins some early rounds but Louis takes over after round six.

Jones has the freak tools to win. But he has to avoid Louis for 15 rounds. Jones was not quite the mover Conn was. They applied their talents differently. Jones has the edge over Billy for pure quickness, of course, but Billy can cover ground faster. I might bet your money on Jones, I will have to save my own, though.

I agree... In a 15 rounder I have more confidence that Louis catches Jones properly, but Jones is a bad match up...As Ray might say, "what kind of sneakers does Jones have?" Conn was a different animal entirely, a master at using what he had but not the same natural equipment that Jones had.

Jones could potentially avoid Louis, he could catch Louis and even drop him. However Louis was so good at stalking and setting up his attacks, It would be interesting.

Billy Boxing,

I agree.

Remember what Tarver's left hook did to Mr. Jones:

It's the landing of that left hook which would be the problem.
