He decided this himself or was he forced to do it?.

Aren't they supposed to judge the film based on it's merits alone, and not what they think of the actors' ideology or the BLM movement?

For me, it was a good all around war movie.

That's an interesting point you're making because she is basically saying that she's having BLM shoved in her face. Now if it was me I just wouldn't care but she's making it into something more. She's talking about what the lead actor was saying but does that alter the work itself? Of course not. She's acknowledging she's downgrading the film ad hominem - and nobody should ever admit that.

Yea, I didn't get that. I hope whomever it is didn't attach their name to that quotation or leave it where it can be traced, because that could come back to cause a firestorm.

Entertainment Value and Craft - IMHO.

                      BEST PICTURE

                      Call Me by Your Name: EV - 6 / C - 7
                      Darkest Hour: EV - 8 / C - 7
                      Dunkirk: EV - 5 / C - 7
                      Get Out: EV - 8 / C - 8
                      Lady Bird: EV - 8 / C - 8
                      Phantom Thread: EV - 6 / C - 9
                      The Post: EV - 5 / C - 5
                      The Shape of Water: EV - 7 / C - 8
                      Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri: EV - 7 / C - 8

I'm picking Get Out to win because of the sociopolitical factor and the preferential ballot. Three Billboards and The Shape of Water are the favorites and either could win due to the preferential ballot eliminating either, but I think the racial stuff is going to carry Get Out to victory..

This is one of the worst years I can remember in terms of the quality of the films so it's anyone's game in various senses, or at least maybe five different games.. Dunkirk and Darkest Hour also have a chance according to some experts because of how the preferential ballot works.

Here's a good explanation of the preferential ballot from a few years ago:

Basically, don't bet on the favorite which is determined by the precursor awards (Golden Globes, SAG's, BAFTAS, Ect.). None of those bodies use the preferential balloting system so they're effectively a false tell.. Don't tell that to the dumbass awards season pundits though..

Thanks for this most excellent break down. I've only seen two movies on your list. Will check out more.
