  • The Undefeated

I hope nobody takes offence, because this is not my work, but instead, a tribute to the boxing knowledge of fellow poster, hhascup..
I have to say, this will probably be the most amazing list you'll ever see, and felt compelled to post it.. I do hope this doesn't get me into trouble with Obama, as i know he is also in possession of these facts, which i have taken the liberty of copying: but as boxing historians, we can now discuss and hopefully gain knowledge about fighters we never knew about, ie; Has anyone ever seen Justin Blevins, Charles Tanner or Shazzon Bradley fight?
3 unbeaten heavyweights, only one of whom (Tanner) i've actually heard of.. Many of the other fighters on these lists look extremely good on paper, so what happened to them? How good were they? and what made them quit while undefeated?
There's so many of them it's mind boggling!

Once again... Full Credit to hhascup on this one..

IMO the vast majority quit because they most likely got KOd in the gym by sparring partners or realized that they was not going to make it in the pro-ranks... several quit due to injury, all this nonsence about being undefeated is meaningless.. 3 recent fighters spring to mind, Calzaghe, Ottke & Floyd Mayweather, yet they would have lost their undefeated record if they had fought certain fighters, its all about avoiding and ducking the best guys so as to hang on to their O ...

Although as already pointed out by Sonnyboy, the majority of the fighters mentioned, probably were non-enterties, but these lists give us exposure to fighters like Shazzon Bradley, who i mentioned earlier, and who Mike Katz deemed as interesting enough to do an article on in 1998..

          ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BOXER'S TOUGHEST FIGHT IS BEHIND HIM
          By MICHAEL KATZ

          Friday, May 8th 1998, 2:04AM

It's been almost 10 years since he made $5.5 million knocking down Sugar Ray Leonard, and the old Golden Boy is now a dark-haired man of 38, but here he is again, fighting May 28 at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.

"I'm a sick man," Donnie LaLonde, the former light-heavyweight champion, said yesterday at an All Star Cafe press conference, insisting he still was financially affluent.

"I'm addicted to this game. Besides, I can't afford (hair) dye. But don't write about me until I fight contenders (he's going to meet either Kevin Pompey, the former welterweight, or Glen Wolfe on the Westchester card). There's the guy who has a story."

He pointed to Shazzon Bradley, an undefeated heavyweight who, if he can fight, is a miniseries. Bradley said he was conceived by an act of rape. He was an abused child ("a whuppin' wasn't a whuppin', it was a killin' "), he said in a soft country accent. He ran away from his Athens, Tenn., home at the age of 9 and eventually was raised at the expense of his county. He slept at times in office buildings, cars and homes of friends. At the age of 11, he was diagnosed as ******ed.

At 16, he watched his biological father get murdered.

He subsequently graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in criminology. He was a four-year defensive star in football, starting at middle linebacker, and was drafted in the ninth round by the Green Bay Packers in 1991 as a tackle, failing the last cut.

His interest in boxing, he said yesterday, was a "weird story. My biological father was a nice guy. I don't know what happened with my mother. I think they were friends, maybe it was date rape. My mother told me I was conceived by the act of rape when I was 7 or 8 and I never asked details because I didn't want to bring her (memory) back to when it happened.

"But I really liked my father and I was always his little boy. One Saturday night, I was 16 and never went to clubs or drank I still have never touched a drop or smoked anything my friends said they were going out. I said no, but for some reason I got in my car and drove to the club. There was a fight going on, I'm still in the car, and I'm watching these guys start stabbing this guy all the way to the ground and he's fighting them all the way. I went home thinking, what a fighter, that's what I want to be."

Later, he was told his father was stabbed to death.

"I feel bad because I didn't get involved, but I think that's the night I became a fighter," said Bradley.

He is 16-0 with 15 KOs, mostly on the weak Tennessee circuit, but advertised as the "world's hardest puncher." He fights Mitch Sammon, "world's toughest man," in White Plains.
          -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He went on to knock Sammon cold in the opening round, and continued his winning streak with wins over veteran trial horses, Sedrick Fields, Everett Martin, Marion Wilson and Jeff Pegues who he also disposed of in the 1st..
He was 21-0-0 (17KO) and retires.. Does anyone know why?

              Also,

I'm glad you all have gotten a chance to meet Henry, all the more so since he's been making periodic posts here again Henry is a class guy who's forgotten more about boxing than I'm ever likely to know. I actually met him originally on another boxing site and engaged in one or two debates with him. I may not agree with him on everything but I have nothing but respect for the man and hope he becomes at least a semi-regular here
