Is canelo really a huge ppv star?

He may not be a huge star but he is the top draw today by a good margin.

Other than Fury/Wilder, I can't see another fight coming close to the 300+k Canelo would do.

So if 150k buys more makes him an 80/20 split and choice of catch weight. Golovkin has the same right to 80/20 split with ward and choice of weight. (*flamesuit on)
u forgot his ppv vs angulo and remember how many times floyd asked for canelo on his undercard to boost his ppv numbers

Cotto and Alvarez split $20m before a single anything was sold to anyone. For even Golovkin's PPV fight, the most he's ever split was almost $4m.

Andre Ward split almost $2.4m with Barrera, almost $2.3m with Paul Smith, almost $3m with Edwin Rodriguez, and $2m with Chad Dawson.

Alvarez split $2.5m with Lara (before counting the PPV and Mexico TV rights), almost $5m with Kirkland, and $2m with Angulo (before counting the PPV and Mexico TV rights).

Golovkin split $1.6m with Monroe Jr, $1.4m with Rubio, and $1.4m with Geale. When things get disclosed, I doubt that Golovkin ends up splitting even $2m with Wade.

From an objective perspective, Andre Ward has more money backing him than Golovkin has backing him; 50/50 is pretty darned generous when you look at it.

He's does good numbers. People have to realize that what Floyd was able to do for so long wasn't normal. Especially for a non-heavyweight. Compare Canelo to other fighters and his number are good.

Your right i forgot angulo which did 350k . So its safe to say Canelo has about a 300-350k draw power. Which did boost fmj numbers

I think the draw power is what tips the scales. Hbo are either some broke *****es or pbc over pays

With PBF and Pac retired and Cotto MIA, canelo is basically the biggest draw in boxing right now, nobody comes close except wlad over in germany.

Whether you want to call that a "PPV star" or not is up to you. Hes not a tyson, DLH, Tito sized draw but hes the biggest today.

With Floyd and Manny gone he's the biggest seller left, and money is a powerful weapon in negotiations. You offer someone a career-high payday and in exchange you can usually pick venue, catchweight, try and use Klitschko foam canvas etc. I doubt anyone from 154-160 would turn him down, and there are likely other guys like Khan at 147 who would make the jump up to face him.

He's clearly not Floyd-level as an attraction though, and likely never will be considering his no frills personality and the chances he loses to Golovkin.
