  • USA Today exposes Dana White's "Best In The World" only in UFC crap

    From Dagwood@ global mma

Looks like you can't fool all of the MMA people all of the time.

I've been saying for a long time that Dana & the Fertitta's relentless efforts to takeover MMA everywhere would be a double-edged sword for them. The bigger their empire gets and the more mainstream they try and take it... the more exposure they are going to get to 'rea'l journalists & 'real' sports analysts from 'real' sports media organizations.

Looks like things are finally starting to catch up with the Zuffa brain-trust from big time sports media that aren't intimidate by them at all. Their businesses go on with or without access to the UFC. There's going to be more and more critical commentary along with more and more tough questions from them to come. Be careful what you wish for boys...

"But Coker has always argued that his best fighters can thrive against any top talent, even those in UFC. It was an unprovable claim until Zuffa bought Strikeforce this year and quickly moved three of its champions to UFC: welterweight Nick Diaz; light-heavyweight Dan Henderson; and heavyweight Alistair Overeem.

Turns out Coker had a point." - USA Today

    --------------------------------------

Before his company bought Strikeforce, Zuffa President Dana White used to deride the rival promotion as a haven mostly for talent that was overrated, overpriced, over the hill, or some combination of all 3. The immediate success of Diaz and Henderson against 2 of mixed martial arts' all-time greats vindicates the scouting capabilities of Coker & former Strikeforce matchmaker Rich Chou. - USA Today

Exposed? It's just Dana White talking ****. Obviously Strikforce consisted of more than just overrated, overpriced and over the hill fighters seeing as dana brought them. TS needs to get a grip.

Its true of the other Heavyweights as well. Cormier, Big Foot Silva and Barnett could all end up top 5 in the HW rankings. Problem is, its only a matter of time before the UFC own them anyway.

The point is that those fighters were never recognized or recognized highly for their achievements and their skills prior to joining UFC.

While those already in the UFC were promoted up to the top ten even though they didnt deserve it i.e. Brock Lesnar, Carwin, and Cain.

Dana and the zombies slammed those strikeforce guys as not being able to cut it against someone like Brock, how wrong they were. Who is to say that fighters in Bellator, M-1, Golden Glory, Dream cant also compete and beat UFC's best. The only thing keeping the UFC from being exposed more is because they refuse to CO PROMOTE or WORK WITH OTHER PROMOTIONS for a non restrictive one off deal.

People need to stop hating on DW he has done a ton for mma while you keyboard champs have done nothing to elevate the sport. He has created an environment where most of the great fighters have to fight each other. The UFC is the biggest MMA organization because it promotes and signs the fights the public wants to see the most. If it wasn't for DW we would have a crap load of ducking and multiple belts like Boxing. The best thing that can happen for mma IMO is for the UFC to swallow all the small outfits and become a national sporting body similar to the NFL, NBA, and MLB. With the Fox mainstream deal the UFC has a chance to make mma into a household sport. The Ultimate fighter is a great way to find talent, promote the sport, and introduce mma to the masses. So stop crying of course DW is going to talk up his organization it's a business and he's the owner, he has a vested interest in promoting his brand.

What? This whole article is dumb especially since diaz and hendo both went to strikeforce from the UFC. It's not like strikeforce found them and please hendo is the 2nd best middleweight ever so how was he not recognized for his prior achievements? Its one fight yet people don't wanna mention Jake shields is 0-3 in the UFC if you don't count that robbery vs kampman.

Brock Carwin and cain aren't top 5? WTF are you smoking? Tell me whos better and make sure you give me resume details. Brock Lesnar gets no respect its disgusting how dumb people can be. Dude came in with one fight and destroyed randy, herring and mir who were all highly ranked at that time. He still has more quality wins then overeem since the only 2 noteworthy heavyweights Overeem has ever beat is brock and werdum. So how you going to trash brock but use him in your arguement to build Overeem?

An environment of under paid fighters while him and his bosses get paid, and to tell the truth year by year this best fighting the best is going out the window, look at Silva Sonnen 2 thats the fight the fans want at mw instead we get Munoz Sonnen and probably Silva Bisbing,or how about the protection of George St Pierre, you will see it more and more down the line deserving fighters getting the shaft for ticket sellers.

The fighters don't seem to be complaining and obviously where are they going to get bigger checks? Most of the other large MMA orgs folded and failed to maintain financial stability. Probably because they were paying the fighters too much, greatly increasing their overhead. Sonnen vs Silva 2 will happen AS is injured now right? Can the guy get healthy before going up against a scrappy challenger? GSP is hurt right now too, but he will be facing Nick Diaz if he beats Condit. JJ is running through everyone at LHW, they will have to bring in King Mo and Feijo to challenge him soon. Stop trying to grasp at straws.
