  • Comments Thread For: Luis Nery Stops Shinsuke Yamanaka in Four To Claim WBC Belt

Shinsuke Yamanaka suffered his first pro defeat on Tuesday, losing his WBC bantamweight crown in a fourth-round technical knockout to Mexico's Luis Nery. Yamanaka, making his 13th title defense, was staggered in the fourth round, and his trainer threw in the towel with 29 seconds left in the round at Shimadzu Arena Kyoto.

This was a one-sided fight from the beginning... Nery is another Killer in the Mexican boxing Stable... It's like the legend Marquez retire's and shortly there-after 3 or 4 young prospects step up to the play to lift the torch!!! this fight was stopped the way all fights should be stopped... looking out for the fighters safety... Yamanaka had no issue with the stoppage either... he did not know what had happened... he was out on his feet... doing the only thing his body and mind are programmed to do during a fight... just punch.... I remember the nonito donaire KO of Montiel... Montiel was out on the canvas... but was still trying to throw punches... Add another star to the Mexican boxing Legacy!!!

The new king of the division, baby.

With 22 years old he went to Japan and destroyed one of the best fighters in history of Japan, only in 4 rounds.

      Luis Nery weapons:

      -Crazy stamina.
-Skill to land punches from weird angles.
      -Very strong.
-Good chin (took the best shots of Yamanaka).
      -Southpaw.
      -Very good power.
      -Heart and determination.
      -Crazy combinations.
      -Good body crusher.
      -Footwork.
      -Explosiveness and good speed.

Sounds a lot like the Montiel–Hasagawa fight from 2010.

          Yep.

But Yamanaka was better than Hasegawa and Luis Nery is considered like the future of mexican boxing, he is better than Montiel too.

          Yoko Gushiken vs Pedro Flores...

          That was identical.

Yamanaka had 13 defenses of his title, the same that Gushiken and Nery destroyed his reign.

End of an era. Yamanaka had ruled over 118 for a while now, but he was getting up there in age. Good to see his crown taken by a good, young undefeated fighter. Very interested to see what Nery can become over the next few years. I would really like to see him televised in the US making a defense against vs Juan Carlos Payano

I like this kid. Respect to boxingscene who named him prospect of the year when he wasn't even listed by others.

118 is looking pretty good now with three good young fighters in Nery, Burnett and Rodriguez near the top, the WBA and IBF shortly to be unified, and the excellent Zolani Tete holding the WBO

That was a hell of a performance.

Got caught a few times swinging but that comes with the territory when you fight like that. Some of those shots were brutal for 118lber.

Him vs the winner of Burnett vs Zhakiyanov is mouth watering. Tete around as well.

Hard to bet against Nery after that kind of performance. The same age as Gervonta Davis as well to put it into perspective. Much better opponent as well.

Could have a star on our hands for the lower divisions
