  • Golovkin should just take the 10 million...

    And here's why:

Everyone is too focused on the Canelo fight.

Gennady and co. need to play chess with this shìt, not checkers.

He takes the 10 mil (as opposed to what, 12, 15 tops?) and the increase in his purses over the next few years will make up the difference and then some. Especially if Canelo wants a rematch.

If he turns down the offer, Saul has his escape route, and can then blame Golovkin for the fight falling through. Canelo keeps earning top dollar from the Mexican fan base (Cotto rematch, Lemieux, whoever), and Golovkin will continue to make the same money he's been making, which will be far less than the 10 mil plus what he can demand for future fights due to his increased value from knocking out the ginger on a big PPV.

There's a time and a place to hold out for more money, but in this situation the smart play is to take the flat fee and then enjoy calling the shots for the next few years.

And of course we can't forget that father time is creeping up on Gennady, so it's make or break with this shìt.

I agree, he is going to have to bend to get the top names he desires..if he is victorious the big money will come down the line

I've been saying this. He beats Canelo so why not?

And if there is a rematch, Golovkins in the driver's seat

If Pac took that flat fee offer vs Floyd, or if Floyd took a flat fee from Oscar, they'd be idiots. Nobody wants to be an idiot

Pretty big if. Vargas never rematched Trinidad. Oscar knows this fight is career shortening. Would they wanna shorten it double?

Pac had several options and was already a multi division champion, hall of famer and ATG

Floyd before he fought Oscar was already a hall of famer and a multi division champion with several options

GGG is 34..never had a meaningful fight and has none on the horizon..he needs to take the money if he wants the fight because Canelo literally never has to fight him

It's complicated. If you can get an extra 2... or even 5 million, by all means go for it. But, there also comes a risk. A risk you'll be old by the time it happens. Or, that you'll never get the fight at all and instead of gaining 5 million, you lost the chance to get 10. It's a fine line and the managers that negotiate these things are infinitely more knowledgeable about this stuff than any of us. I tend to trust that they are making some smart decisions.

No. Screw it. I am a GGG fan yet realistic.

He will beat Canelo, no doubt. Take the 10 mill KTFO Canelo and the world is his.

Still those flat fees would be career best money for both. It's not just them, show me anyone that ever took a flat fee for the biggest fight in boxing.

How long do you think this offer stands, for next September?

Like where else is he going to make that much $ anyways? You're going up against a one of a kind star, even if he had all four + Ring belt, Canelo is still the reason majority of the people would be there in the arena, buying PPVs in fact those people still be buying tickets/ppvs if Canelo is fighting the likes of Liam Smith.

GGG as defending MW champion had to travel to the backyard of a WW champion, Canelo even as the challenger came out second to Liam Smith, says it all. Then of course we can get in to the nitty gritty of PPV sales.
