No idea but I have a Dell Desktop which cost me 500 UK pounds in 2008. Back then it was more like 1000 dollars, or about 750 now.

    It still runs great.

I have never heard of any body having problems with actual Gateway PC's/laptops and this is going back to 1999.
I've always heard good things about Gateway as well. I bought a cheap ass eMachines in 2005 and lasted me throughout college and I'm just now replacing it. For $400, that isn't bad at all.

Ok, so it's a fairly new Mac. If you're using Safari, it has something called Domain Name System Prefetching which some routers and ISPs might have a problem with.

        DNS prefetching and improved caching.
Behind the scenes, Safari employs a technique called Domain Name System (DNS) prefetching. If you’re on a web page with links, Safari finds the links and looks up the addresses. Click one of the links, and Safari quickly loads the web page for you. And improved page caching means more of the pages you viewed in the past load faster than before.

Once you go Mac, trust me you never go back.

Apple isn't the richest company in the world for no reason.
Apple wasn't rich on the Macbook or Mac which have been out for quite some time.

The I pod, and I phone is what has made them huge.

I use Chrome. Works better for me than Firefox and Safari. I posted the specs just below that other post. I'm gonna upgrade her memory for her and see if that helps.

And I love my iphone! No complaints whatsoever, except I wish it played flash. Not a dealbreaker, though. Everybody I know has an android phone and almost all of theirs are slow as hell now, lagging, and shutting off randomly on them.

Ok, those seem fine. If it's the browser lagging then its probably flash or her Internet speed.

If there is a way of blocking flash until you want to use it like Click2flash for chrome, then try that.

Great thread. Lots of good info. I'll be using this thread when I hit Best Nuy today. Almost bought a HP with a i3 processor yesterday, but they aint have any more in stock. So maybe this other Best Buy will have it.
