They leaked it to AXIOS that Rosenstein was resigning, in an effort to prompt him to actually resign, they summoned him to the WH where he did not resign blowing the narrative they tried to spin. For Trump, Rosenstein MUST resign. If he resigns, Trump can fill Rosenstein’s position with whoever he wants with no Senate approval needed for 8 months. If Rosenstein is fired, the replacement has to be vetted and approved by committee. It’s outlined in the Federal Vacancies Reform Act of 1998. They bluffed, and Rosenstein called their bluff. He's gonna force Trump to fire him.

Trump nominated him, and he was confirmed by the Senate.

Sessions appointed Rosenstein to oversee the Mueller witch hunt after Sessions recused himself.

But either way, Trump is free to fire Rosenstein.

So the fake news media claimed that Rosenstein was resigning, then being sacked, then not resigning or not being sacked. No wonder nobody trusts these suckers.

The MSM trying to set up Trump in a no-win situation.
He acts and he is a tyrant not fit for office...
He doesn’t act and he is a coward not fit for office.

                  Update February 18th 2019:

Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein expected to leave Justice Department in mid-March

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is expected to leave his role at the Justice Department by mid-March, a senior DOJ official told Fox News on Monday.

An official announcement of who has been selected to replace Rosenstein could come as early as this week. A Trump administration official added that Attorney General William Barr has picked Jeffrey Rosen, who currently serves as Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation, to take over for Rosenstein.

Good riddance...if you caught McCabe's 60 Minutes interview yesterday this does not come as much of surprise. McCabe named Rosenstein as a conspirator in the Twenty-fifth Amendment-gate would be coupe.

He's just hanging in to facilitate the transition over to Jeffrey Rosen.
