It was my first girlfriend, my one true love. We met at dawn on a Friday evening, strolling along an empty beach during sunset. We sat in the sand and she playfully brushed sand on my toes as we laughed with eachother and held hands while the sun set upon us. We promised we would stay together forever. But those days are gone now, robbed from me during the twilight of my teen years. The flame has been extinguished and the memories have turned dark and cold, a reminder of past hope that has faded. I am now an empy shell of a man, holding a picture of her while I take a cold shower and cry, my finger caressing her face on the picture as tears run down my cheek. I snuggle into my bed gently caressing my Obama sock monkey and pretending it's her. It gives me momentary relief as I fall asleep, a moment of peace before I must wake up and face the dark of the coming day....
