  • Should Fast Eddie Have Seen The Okey-Doke Coming?

Now that we know Wilder vs Fury is a thing, the question must be asked...should Hearn have recognized the possibility that Tyson and Deontay would get together and outflank him or was it something no one could have anticipated?

Yes, he should have know nickel and diming both of his largest potential fights would backfire.

No, with AJ running everything, no way he could predict that one.

i dont understand how this is some pie in the face for eddie hearn. joshua fights the winner late 2019 for even more money. team joshua will be making plenty of money before then too, dont worry about that pal

I don't think he expected Fury to make this move.

He probably figured Fury would wait to cash out against Joshua, as that would probably be a bigger money fight.

So not only will Wilder raise his own profile when he knocks Fury out, but he'll also be taking away a big potential payday from Joshua in the future.

AJ goes from having two massive options to one massive option.

AJ goes from having incredible leverage with both massive options to far less leverage with the one massive option.

Wilder and Fury likely fight a rematch next year, and possibly a trilogy fight if they split the first two fights. While AJ is stuck in mandatory purgatory.

AJ can only keep his momentum for so long if all of the most interesting heavyweight fights don't involve him.

Hearn knows Fury isn't ready for Wilder yet so he was definitely surprised that he'd take the risk at this point but ultimately it works to his advantage because whoever wins the fight will have a more far-reaching profile and make the AJ fight even bigger than before. AJ will eventually fight both the winner and the loser. With Deontay coming to the UK to square off with Fury, it raises his UK profile, which ultimately benefits Matchroom when it comes to promoting the AJ vs Wilder fight down the line as he will be more of a known commodity on a national scale now. Fury is already a national celebrity so the fight with AJ is guaranteed to sell, win or lose against Wilder (although I believe Wilder and Fury might rematch before the AJ fight happens).

Hearn definitely didn't see this happening. Even when there were strong rumors of it he kept saying Fury will pull out or him and Warren are probably just playing games with Wilder. He is ticked for a few reasons. Forget the Joshua reason for one second. Hearn BADLY wanted Wilder on DAZN and was willing to pay him five freaking million to fight washed Chisora and seven million to fight Whyte. What he was thinking was the only other option Wilder has at the moment is Breazeale, and since he would be able to offer him more money to fight his guys, he would take it. Tried to sell you can make 22 million fighting Whyte/Joshua!! Once it hit him Wilder wouldn't be fighting on DAZN later this year (which would have been his big November card in Vegas), or in April against Joshua, that was a big blow for him. Remember, he was still planning on putting Wilder/Joshua on DAZN. And if Wilder beats Fury, do you think there is a chance in hell Wilder and his team agree to that? No way, they will be pushing for SHO PPV.

As for the Joshua showdown only becoming bigger after the Wilder/Fury fight? Absolutely, but if Wilder wins he will be asking for 50/50 and then probably settling for around 40-45%. So does Joshua even make more money opposed to if he took the fight in October or November? Maybe a bit more but I'm not sure about that.

So yeah, Wilder pulling a rabbit out of a hat by getting the Fury showdown eliminated any chance of him fighting on DAZN any time soon, and likely ever. Make no mistake, that was one of Hearn's big plans.

Its an even bigger win for him actually. You Wilder fans are so caught up with hate that you cant even see that the Fury Wilder fight makes the AJ Wilder fight even more revenue considering Wilder wins.
Wilder made the right move, he needed the equalizer to deserve the 50/50. Wilder beats Fury everyone on the planet will vouch for him to get a 50/50 split in the AJ fight.
This is good for Wilder and AJ, the size of the pot just got bigger.
Put the hate aside use some logic here. Ask yourself how does this hurt Hearn in any possible way when his guy fight the winner?

i don't think he cared. fury just fought on an undercard. lets not pretend like he is some super popular fighter. yes he would have liked to cherry pick fury but he didn't think fury would be ready for awhile so props to wilder for getting the cherry first. thats what boxing is about. who can get that baldomir first!
