Yes, I think losing Texas is a legitimate threat to Republicans. Probably in 8 years time if demographics continue shifting the way they are but, if not, definitely in my lifetime.
However, that's not even the major point of my original post. My major point is the electoral threat Trump poses to the party with his low numbers with minorities - Which is an undisputed fact at this point. You can take Texas out of the equation if you get too hung up on it and look at the polling numbers in other Republican stronghold states that are absolutely vital to their winning a general election like Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona, or Utah and see the same trend : The dislike for Trump among minorities in those states is so strong that they're all considered to be "in play" for Clinton this year.
And it's not like Clinton is some remarkably beloved figure, either. We all know her public approval ratings are bunk too. If it were a more beloved figure that the public saw as an honest personality the numbers would likely be even worse for Trump.
That's the issue and the reason why so many Republicans aren't endorsing Trump. Because the growing number of minorities in Republican states are going to remember them all rallying behind him and his hurtful rhetoric that targeted them in future elections.
Guys like the Bushes, Romney, Graham, Cruz, Lee, and all the others I've mentioned are literally falling on their sword right now to try and prevent that and keep the party competitive on a national level regardless of November's outcome.
