I just bought new gloves....12oz, and they feel very awkward, are they meant to? i mean...when i put my hand in there its just the tip of my fingers that curl, not my whole finger? i could get used to that but is it harmful for my fingers?

Typically normal, You have to break them in...Put them on and wear them a while before boxing and maybe hit light on the heavy bag to break them in...Give them a few days of wear and tear.

weird cos i dont remember having to break in the million pairs of gloves ive owned before....but ill give these a try anyway
