Oscars strategy was to stay away from Tito. First eight rounds was stay out of range. Jump in and flurry and immediately jump back out of range. Repeat three or so times around. He did that for eight rounds all the while Trinidad steady hunted him down getting his shots in too. After eight Oscar was done. He couldn’t keep up the pace for the 12. So survival kicked in. From round ten-12 he didn’t even throw a punch. Lol. Boxing lesson doe.
If Oscar out boxes Trinidad so easy he would have kept doing so. He couldn’t keep up with his strategy and ran for the last third of the fight. He claims he won after embarrassing himself of literally running away.
Would he had won IF he stuck to his game plan of stick and move maybe if he had the stamina. He didn’t and if he stuck with his game plan Tito would have walked him down and folded him. Oscar was certain of this and thus ran. NO ONE back then had better conditioning than Trinidad.
Oscar saved enough to stay away for four rounds and lives to lie about his “boxing lesson”. Lol. He must have forgot that there are 12 rounds and rrunning is what your supposed to do at a track not in a boxing ring and especially NOT in the championship rounds of the “fight of the Millennium”
Props to Tito for continuing to fight, but it was a tainted victory in most boxing fans' eyes. And you don't have to be an ODLH nuthugger to say so.
