Since when did DeNiro become a byword for unwatchable movies?

De Niro was the man from 1973-1995 or so. I mean really in three different decades he dropped many great films. But he's forgotten that being choosy is when he was at his best. He was still doing alright stuff in the late 90's/early 00's briefly. But he really hasn't done anything good in awhile besides Silver Linings Playbook. My girlfriend dragged me to The Intern, but it wasn't really that bad. I thought De Niro was enjoyable in that one.

He just needs to be more choosy. But he's a legend, and one of the GOAT's. So I guess after nearly three decades putting up an incredible resume, I guess he's earned the right to do whatever the hell he wants???

But it's like Roy Jones. No matter how horrendous he looks now days in any BS fights, it doesn't take away from what he was. De Niro still did those things, he still did some incredible movies. And nothing will change that.

De Niro is the man. Obviously when you've been producing classics for the last 40 years not everything's going to be a HR but for a 70 year old he still in good roles who else his age is doing better. If you break his career into 3 parts every part is filled with sick movies

      1975-1987

      Mean streets
      godfather
      Taxi Driver
      Deer hunter
      Raging Bull

      1988-2000
      The untouchables
      Goodfellas
      Backdraft
      Cape Fear
      A Bronx tale
      This Boys Life
      Casino
      Heat
      The fan
      Marvins room
      Jackie Brown
      Ronin

      2001-2015
      Men of Honour
      Meet the Parents
      The Score
      Machete
      Limitless
      Silver Linings
      American Hustle
      Joy ??????
Hands of Stone ?????? Definit want to watch it

Top to bottom throughout his Career DeNiro has been putting in his work. Hes built up enough goodwill with not to sh.it on him if he wants to make a dud or make a crap film that's only about the $

In the late 90s he got more into comedy genre films and that's when he started making those non-De Niro like movies. Pacino, who is like 1 and 2 with De Niro in my list, did have a better late 90s than De Niro but he too fell off in the 2000s. Donnie Brasco, The Insider, The Devil's Advocate, Insomia and Any Given Sunday lead Pacino to finish the 90s decade on a good note. Those are my two favorite actors right there for what they did from the 70s through the 90s. And Heat is still a movie I like watching here and there. GlenGarry Glen Ross never gets old, Scarecrow, Serpico, Scent of a Woman, Donnie Brasco, Insomnia ooohhh. Man when De Niro is mentioned I gotta start talking about Pacino too

But yeah, I agree. I haven't sat down and watched a De Niro movie on my own, not someone putting it on and I just happen to be there looking at it, since City by the Sea.

I do like De Niro a lot, though I guess a criticism could be that he's not quite the chameleon that, say, Rod Steiger is.

This is from a recent interview:

"I used to worry about doing take after take," he says. "Now I don't worry about it so much. You can get it in the first take, more often than not. If there's some aspect of the character that you're really trying to get?" He shrugs. "Then maybe have two."

I'm sure he also said somewhere "I just make as many movies as I can these days, because **** it, I'll be dead soon, yer ****" but I can't find that quote.

Id rather watch a Roy Jones fight than a De Niro film these days.
I honestly wish he had died a long long time ago.

                  That's a bit harsh.

He has one last GOAT level performance left in him when Scorcese finally makes The Irishman with him, Pacino, and Pesci.

Just so it can sink into that Jew's head of yours, look and see if you can spot the difference:

                      LIST A:
                      Taxi Driver
                      The Godfather Part II
                      The Deer Hunter
                      King of Comedy
                      Raging Bull

                      LIST B:
                      Godsend
                      Analyze That
                      Meet The Fockers
                      Dirty Grandpa
The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle

                      Can you spot the difference?
better to be "Britta'd" than "Britted"

Literally the only good thing to say about De Niro's recent career is at least he's not in one of those sad adverts parodying his old roles, like you see Harvey Keitel, Ray Winstone, Arnie etc. doing. But at this rate any day now he'll be popping up in a shitty car insurance ad, driving a yellow taxi while winking at the camera and asking a meerkat 'you talkin to me?'
