  • Golovkin Needs TO MOVE UP IN WEIGHT TO BE GREAT, "THAT'S WHAT WE DID" - Mike McCallum

rare interview by one of the most avoided fighters from 154-175...you know the weights where team GGG said they'd fight the best

McCallum was avoided like the plague by bigger names and still went on to build a HOF career.....titles at 154, 160 and 175

will GGG attempt the same thing?

I'm sure he will move up but as long as the Canelo fight is still possible, it would be dumb to jump to 168 now.

Golovkin stays in shape, never struggles making weight, and fights in his natural weight class...3 things that are unfortunately not common in professional boxing today. Most fighters that move up today only do so because they can no longer make the weight because they get some money and get lazy and fat (Lemieux, Walters, Broner) or because it is just extremely dangerous for them to keep killing themselves to make a weight they shouldn't even be near.

Im ok with him staying at 160 as long as meaningful fights get made there between now and 2017...he needs to move up if he is gonna be fighting Wade type guys the remainder there

How many of these threads need to be made?

So let's get this straight - Golovkin had an upcoming mandatory, and then he's expected to fight Canelo for a big unification. But what posters are saying is he needs to move up in weight now...for who exactly? Andre Ward is at 175 now and in agreement to fight Kovalev. So what then, Groves maybe? Abraham if he's lucky? DeGale who himself is talking about moving up to 175??

His best move is to stay at 160 and a). attempt to fight Canelo, b). attempt to fight Saunders and/or Danny Jacobs. Once he either gets one of those fights and figures out if Canelo will happen or not, sure go to 168 and fight whoever is the best there (Abraham, Badou Jack and possibly DeGale of he stays...real legacy/big money fights!)

LOL Dante at it again, right off the bat he starts with "Some fans are comparing Golovkin to Marvin Hagler, what do you think about that?"

Lmao classic Dante baiting. Literally uses this exact same line all the time.

Mike McCallum was in the same position GGG is in

He was lined up to fight Duran but it never happened n other big names of his day

He was avoided like GGG but moved up wanted to see what you thought of his comments

McCallum won titles @ 54...60...75....same weights team GGG SD they'd fight the best

Golovkin doesn't want to be great. He wants to be rich.

SRL straight up avoided him. Duran did too. Hearne didn't seem keen on fighting him either and they were sparring partners. McCallum should have easily been in the discussion with those guys. Rightfully, he was the future and none of them wanted to fight him.
