If the federal government just out of the blue imposed a wholesale ban on firearms in the US directed at law abiding citizens rights protected under the 2nd, then there is going to be a lot more than federal charges and prison to worry about.

A whole bunch of people understand this, and will fight against it if a scenario like this were to ever happen.

Look up Bundy standoff that just happened in 2014 where your average joes formed a gun militia against law enforcement that included FBI and the Governor. The stand off was essentially over unpaid ranch fees to the government, and in the end law enforcement stood down.

And that was minor, so If you really think your average joe in the states is going to lay down over something major like gun confiscation then you clearly have no idea about what sort of people live in the states.
