  • If Ref Hadn't Stopped Does Conor Die Or Get Brain Damaged Against Floyd?

Former UFC MMA star, Tim Hague, died 2 months ago after suffering a KO loss in his fourth boxing match. Conor was showing signs of severe fatigue and if he'd taken a few more accurate Mayweather shots is it possible he too would have suffered a similar fate, or at the least sustained serious brain injury, perhaps effectively ending his career altogether? The ballpark $100 million he made from the fight might have then been spent on a lifetime of care and support?

The ref definitely did him a favour.

He could have been seriously hurt.

He was at the same point Hatton was out on his feet and a punch away from who knows what, 20 or so unanswered shots if the ropes didn't hold him up Connor be in the front row.

Floyd was robbed of a clean on his back KO so Connor should be grateful he was saved, they were scared Connor would be hurt and that would have caused an uproar.

Conor was out on his feet. He's an entertaining guy but mostly full of it like most big mouth bragger's before a fight. Still he and Mayweather deserve credit for pulling off probably the most lucrative "legal" heists in boxing history.

Last mma fighter before Conor died in the ring. Robert Byrd deserves major credit. I'm pretty sure his orbital bone is fractured though

            It's possible.

The ref stopped the fight at the right time because Conor wasn't fighting back and was taking much punishment. It's possible Conor could have been seriously hurt had the ref not stopped it but no more likely than any other fight in which a boxer is in trouble. Most likely Mayweather would have dropped him for the count of ten and he would have recovered and been OK.

Whether he would have or not is irrelevant. The fact that we don't have to find out is why the referee is in there. Most of the times when a boxer gets injured in the ring, there's no outward sign of distress. I don't think anyone can complain about the stoppage especially considering the state he was in and the fact that he didn't throw a punch for over a minute.
