  • Muhammad Ali Jr. detained at airport second time

Muhammad Ali Jr. was detained and questioned at a Washington airport before being allowed to board a flight to Fort Lauderdale after meeting with lawmakers to discuss a separate airport detention incident last month, a lawyer for the late heavyweight champion’s son said Friday.

Ali and his mother, Khalilah Camacho Ali, were stopped at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after returning from Jamaica on Feb. 7. They traveled to Washington on Wednesday without incident to speak to members of a congressional subcommittee on border security about that experience.

But attorney Chris Mancini said that when Ali attempted to board a JetBlue Airways flight home to Florida on Friday, he was detained for 20 minutes. Mancini said Ali spoke to Department of Homeland Security officials by telephone and showed his driver’s license and passport before he was allowed to board.

“None of this was happening Wednesday,” Mancini said in a telephone interview Friday afternoon as he was traveling with the Alis. “Going to Washington obviously opened up a can of worms at DHS.”

spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration acknowledged the agency confirmed Ali’s identity before he boarded his plane.

Spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein said Ali also was patted down because his jewelry set off a checkpoint scanner alarm.

Florida Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who was on the same flight, tweeted a photo with Ali after he was allowed to board and wrote: “On way home on DOMESTIC FLIGHT Muhammad Ali Jr. detained AGAIN ... Religiously profiling son of ‘The Greatest’ will not make us safe.”

The mother and son, both born in the United States, have said in interviews that they believe they have been stopped because they are Muslim with Arabic names. Earlier this week, they announced a campaign for religious freedom in the spirit of the boxing icon, supported by ex-boxing greats Evander Holyfield, Larry Holmes, Roberto Duran and others. They say they are opposed to President Donald Trump’s travel ban, which they feel unfairly targets Muslims.

As Michael Moore predicted Trump''s office seat, he also said about a year or two he will be impeached. Not because of incidents like this with homeland security, but when they grab new leads on Russian involvement, like assets and business...

Turns out he refused to show his passport at first, then he refused to take off jewelry when asked.

Yeah wtf, dude looks suspect and pissed off and angry, cant blame them for being precautions better safe than sorry. You have to protect the other people.

I also think he didnt get a portion of Ali's assets when he passed so he is trying to get a case done to make money off this.

That triggered the metal detector. Debbie Wasserman Schultz conveniently happened to be there.

Airport security is a weapon that is used more by terrorism than any actual attack...Remember when one could board a plane with shoes? then that idiot put a bomb in his shoe? It never even had to go off. The terrorists know this and at any time could put explosives in undergarments for example...Can you imagine the civil strife this will induce? as people all have to take their underwear off to pass? and Im not joking!

Profiling does have success at times despite the contraversy, and angry looking Black Men have been profiled before, but not trying to cause an incident at the airport! There is very little in the way of an excuse for this harassment.

And Wasserman is a thief, a liar and fixes elections...she has no reason to talk about the government acting in the best interests of mr Ali and his mother...as much as I feel for mr Ali, Schultz is not a person I would want speaking up for my rights. There is a dialogue going on where, as a nation we have to accept certain inconveniences and certain provisions of airport security need to be worked out. I can't see how detaining an American citizen, who fits no profile other than being a Muslim will help secure our nation, but I also believe we do need to be vigilant. Its a give and take situation.

                  FAKE NEWS

The TSA said it did not detain Ali Jr., but only stopped him to verify his identity. In an email to the Courier-Journal, a TSA spokesman wrote, “The TSA does not have the authority to detain passengers, and that did not happen.”

According to the TSA, Ali Jr. arrived at the check-in counter at Reagan National, at which time “a call was made to confirm Mr. Ali’s identity with TSA officials.” After 11 minutes, he was eventually cleared and sent to the security checkpoint. At the checkpoint, Ali Jr.’s “large jewelry” set off the scanner and he was patted down by agents. After a seven-minute screening he was cleared to catch his flight.
