It is a middle weight fight for the middle weight title at the middle weight limit and they are following the boxing governing body rules for the weight limits.

They can request whatever they want but they cannot DEMAND a CW for a mandatory title defense. That fight will happen at 160. And Golovkin will not care about being offered extra money, he wants the title. They either defend at 160 or vacate.

Golovkin has already stated numerous times, as has Loeffler, that under no circumstances will GGG fight a catchweight title fight for a MW title. Especially one that he is the mandatory defense for. GGG considers it to be a matter of respect and you can ask Stevens how seriously Golovkin takes matters of respect.

No, there has already been too many disparaging things said about Golovkin having to wait this long for his shot. If they want a catchweight, they may as well vacate the title immediately after the fight. It will look better for whoever the winner is.

Disagree, IMO the winner will ask for a CW for sure, and GGG would take it if they make it worthwhile for him. You don't think he'd do 157 for an extra 10m, say?

He needs to fight ward at a 164 lb Catch weight doe.

Seems to me he can pack on 3 pounds of muscle and basically walk onto the scales without stressin on weight for ward. He would be a credible threat to ward.

1. Ward is fighting tune ups until at least mid 2016
2. No one knows when Ward's next fight is
3. No one knows what weight Ward is going to fight at

Golovkin is a natural MW. He is fighting next week at MW and he is mandatory for the winner of Cotto vs Canelo(WBC Middleweight title).

Ward needs to get his ass in gear and get these tune ups out of the way.
